Rehabilitation and Therapy

Healthcare Center in Medina, Ohio

Our Healthcare Center features private suites where we offer the highest level of care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it’s short-term rehabilitation after a hospital stay or there’s a need for long-term skilled nursing care we use person-centered care to meet each person where they’re at so they can thrive. It goes beyond just the nursing care though and includes a full complement of therapies. Of course it wouldn’t be complete without the lifestyle benefits that make living anywhere on our campus great.

Short Term and Long Term Rehab

Short-term rehab usually comes after a hospital stay. Some of the more common reasons we see someone come to us for short-term rehab are after a surgery like a hip replacement, a medical event like a stroke, or a serious illness. The length of time someone stays varies depending on their needs and the advice of their doctor and insurance company and could range from a few days to a few weeks.

Long-term skilled nursing care is usually for someone who needs more assistance than what can be offered in our assisted living neighborhood. It’s more permanent than short-term rehab and these residents call our Healthcare Center home.

The Highest Standards of Quality

We pride ourselves on the quality of our care at Western Reserve Masonic Community and value transparency. That’s why we actively solicit feedback from residents and their families and publicly share that feedback and our current rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Through Pinnacle, we continually survey residents and their families about the quality of their experiences and report that data each month – including how we compare to similar organizations.

Amenities

The amenities are what make life more fun at the Healthcare Center. Whether someone is here for a short time or stays with us for a while, we want them to be able to live their best life and thrive. Our campus is full of great amenities, but these three are our favorite to highlight for the Healthcare Center.

Restaurant-Style Dining

Within the Healthcare Center you’ll find The Sprig, a restaurant-style dining room with food made fresh-to-order. It’s one of two luxury dining rooms in that part of our campus. It’s open for guests, so visitors can join their loved ones or friends for meals. After eating, move over to the beautiful community living rooms where you can continue socializing.

Full-Service Salon

Looking good is an important part of feeling good so we don’t want anyone to miss out on their regular trips to the salon. With our full-service salon on campus everyone can look – and feel – their best without having to leave campus.

Life Enrichment Programming

Life would be boring without socialization. That’s why we emphasize our life enrichment programming. Everyone in the Healthcare Center is encouraged to get involved and make new friends. From games and activities on campus to trips out for ice cream, we offer a wide array of ways to have fun!

Comprehensive On-Site Therapy Services

Tailored for Rehab and Long-Term Care Needs

Our therapy gym provides short-term rehab patients and long-term care residents with the high-quality on-site therapies they need. Below are descriptions of each type of therapy we currently offer.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy focuses on physical recovery and wellbeing. A combination of stretching, exercise, and other techniques are used to focus on improving strength and mobility and helping decrease and manage pain.

Just like in the private suites, our therapy gym features a ceiling lift system. It’s especially helpful for someone working on improving their balance as they can practice balance improving techniques with a therapist without anyone needing to be worried about a fall. The therapy gym also features private cabanas for some of the techniques therapists may use, including things like massage or electrical stimulation. It also includes a wide assortment of standard gym and therapy equipment such as stationary bikes and weights.

Occupational Therapy

The goal of occupational therapy is being able to complete activities of daily living as easily and safely as possible. An occupational therapist might demonstrate new ways to do a task or use equipment to change how a task is performed.

The occupational therapy area of the gym is centered around a kitchen and bathroom. This is because the occupational therapist will work with each person to make sure they can get food for themselves and safely use the bathroom and shower

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy can address a variety of goals, including difficulties with speaking ability or trouble swallowing. It is commonly used following a stroke, significant hearing loss, or a diagnosis that affects swallowing or cognitive ability. Speech therapists use a variety of techniques, including mouth exercises, thickening of liquids, and nonverbal communication like visual cues.

In the Healthcare Center therapy gym at Western Reserve Masonic Community, there is a dedicated speech therapy room. This gives the speech therapist and the person they are working with privacy and a quiet space where they can work together without distractions.

Respiratory Therapy

Sometimes our patients and residents need a little extra care and support when it comes to their breathing, so we have a respiratory therapist available seven days a week. Respiratory therapy goes beyond just providing oxygen and can include a variety of treatment options based on each person’s needs.

Some of the more common conditions that our respiratory therapists work with patients for include sleep apnea, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and congestive heart failure (CHF), among others. If we notice a new change in a resident or patient’s breathing, we can have the respiratory therapist check on them and work with them if there is an issue.

Do I have to be Mason-affiliated?

No, our senior living community is open to the public regardless of being Masonic or not. During the application process we’ll ask about any Masonic affiliations, but we don’t use that information to decide if you’re eligible to live here.

Are Visitors Allowed?

Absolutely! We encourage family and friends to visit with their loved ones as much as possible. We don’t have set visiting hours, so visitors can stop by whenever is most convenient for them. Anyone visiting should be mindful of therapy schedules and current COVID guidelines.

What if Someone’s Needs Change and They Need More or Less Care?

Our person-centered approach meets each person wherever they’re at and recognizes that their needs will change over time. It could be that someone came for short-term rehab and decided moving to independent living would be beneficial. Or maybe someone in long-term care needs less help with their activities of daily living and can move to assisted living. This is why we’re proud to be the only Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in Medina County, because we’re able to meet each person’s individual needs.

Do you accept Medicare, Medicaid, or other private insurance?

Most of our residents are private pay. If you have questions about Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, or long-term care insurance, talk to your sales counselor. They can explain our pricing more in-depth and connect you with people and resources to answer your questions
